A Beautiful Day
I'm back! Not a ton has been happening besides work, but on Friday my friend Alysa and I went to Calvert Cliffs State Park. It's about a 40 minute walk down to the beach (we forgot to time it either way). There was a ton of algae on the day we visited: algae like kale-of-the-bay and algae like hanks of fake grass and algae like ... well, algae.
Alysa decided she wanted to be a duck, a minnow, and a water snake. She is the queen of turtle-spotting.
I made and brought a picnic lunch for us. There's a restaurant in Troy, NY, called the Whistling Kettle, and after Alysa told me about their sconewiches (sandwiches made ... on a scone), I determined to find a farm near Troy to wwoof at so we could eat there together. Alas, I couldn't find a farm I really wanted to visit, and then my plans changed and I got a second job, so I decided to make my own sconewiches instead.
I looked up the Whistling Kettle's menu online and chose to make their tuna salad sconewich, more or less; ours had chickpea "tuna", sliced tomato, spinach, and chipotle mayo. I forgot the cheese, but we didn't miss it; our homemade sconewiches were delicious, if I do say so myself ;).
We had a beautiful morning together. Part of me wishes we could do things like this all the time, but if we did then these sorts of adventures wouldn't be nearly so special.
